Coming Out: How to Support Your Child

Parents and caregivers of children coming out as trans*, gender-nonconforming, or LGB: join us for a discussion about parenting and supporting your child. LGBTQ ADVOCACY DAY AT THE STATE CAPITOL!

Join hundreds of LGBTQ community leaders, activists, partners, and allies at the state capitol in Sacramento for a day of super well-organized civic engagement and advocacy. People gather into tracks based on region and areas of interest (Criminal Justice Reform; Healthcare, Trans* & Intersex Equality; Mental Health; Youth & Education), then visit legislators and make pitches in support of current legislation. It's an incredible experience for us, and critical for legislators have LGBTQ families in the room. Organized by Equality California in partnership with over a dozen regional and state LGBTQ advocacy organizations (including OFC). Modest stipend, breakfast and lunch available.

University of Alabama, Birmingham Study: compensated survey

The Child and Adolescent Health Lab at UAB is conducting a research study to understand parental reactions to a child's sexual identity disclosure. Participants will complete surveys and an interview, and be compensated for participation. Must be a (biological) parent of an LGBT+ child under 25 years of age to participate.

LGBT-Affirmative Family Therapy

A free, 8-week therapy treatment designed for families who want to strengthen their communication skills and learn new techniques for supporting each other, with the goal of building and strengthening the attachment between parents and their children. Qualifying families will consist of parenting couples, one of whom identifies as LGBT+, who have children between 10 and 17. You will meet with a master's level clinician at Stanford, supervised by a licensed psychologist, and receive 8 weekly sessions of family therapy, around 1.5 hours each. Free of charge!

Request for interviewees: How children of same-sex parents talk about our families

An adult daughter of a lesbian couple, now a student researcher at Lund University in Sweden, is looking for participants for a one-hour video-call interview. Eligible participants must have grown up in the US with at least two parents of the same gender, and be at least 18 years old. The interview will be focused on how, when, why, and in what contexts do we (children of same-sex parents) talk about our families.
