LGBTQ Family BBQ and Campout 2018: DOUBLE HEADER (Friday night through Sunday morning)

07/20/2018 05:00 PM - 07/22/2018 12:00 PM PT

Description

Join us at Tilden Park's beautiful Gillespie group campsite for fun, food, and family  time in the great outdoors! We'll have games, crafts, nature walks, and an evening campfire complete with s'mores  and songs.

Important to Note Before Registering

1. For safety reasons and compliance to the fire code, we need to account for every adult and child who will be at the campsite. So, please remember to register the children as well.

2. To encourage community building and parent leadership, we've made it a requirement for families to select the tasks they can help with, as part of the registration. In the registration, you will see a checklist of available tasks to volunteer for. Please indicate more than one task so we can assign the task you can help out with effectively. If you do not select anything, we will assign you with a task you can best support us with. Let's build community at Campout!

3. While registration is still on a first come, first serve basis, families who have attended Campout in 2016 AND 2017 will be put on a waitlist instead of being given a confirmed spot for Campout. Based on families' feedback, we will provide an opportunity families who have not attended Campout before or in recent years to attend this year. Regardless, please still do register if you're interested!

The confirmation email you will receive right after you register is NOT the final confirmation. We will personally inform all successful Campout registrants by the 2nd week of June.

4. Families must bring their own sleeping bags, pads, and tents. OFC has a few extras that can be borrowed at no cost. Subject to availability. Please email nadi@ourfamily.org ASAP if you wish to request the above equipments.

5. Please register by 5pm Friday, May 31st to help us finalize the quantities  for meals and supplies. We are unable to accommodate walk-ins or day-of  registration.

Share your story

We’re looking for stories by or about LGBTQ+ parents/caregivers or prospective parents, as well as the grandparents or adult children of LGBTQ+ headed families.

Generally, we hope your story will not only inform other families on LGBTQ+ family topics, but also let others know that they are not alone in the journey of advocating for our families.

Whether you feel like you’ve arrived, or your story is not yet complete, know that we can keep one another company all along the way. And it always helps to feel a little less alone.

  • How is your family structured?
  • What is your family formation story?
  • Have you faced challenges in forming your family or parenting because of your identity?
  • How were you able to navigate these challenges?
  • What has been the impact on you/your spouse/children?
  • What systems/people helped guide you?
  • What advice would you have for other LGBTQ-headed families – or perhaps just your younger self?
  • How have you or your family dealt with challenges at schools, medical providers, or elsewhere?
  • Were there times when you expected resistance and instead were welcomed?
  • Do you have opinions you’d like to share about current events, or perhaps movies, TV shows, music, or more?
  • Do you have a story about how Our Family Coalition has had an impact on your or your family that you’d like to share?
