VIRTUAL: 3-Part Series: How To Do Your Black Child's Hair Workshop Pt. 3 | 2:00 - 3:00PM
Description
This workshop is meeting virtually during shelter-in-place, as part of our Coronavirus response.
Please register in advance to receive phone and video conference access information.
Natural hair has always had a negative stigma in the African American community. If your natural curls are not loose, then it receives a negative reputation as dry, unmanageable and unattractive. This workshop hopes to illustrate a different image. Hair is (and has been historically) a crucial way that Black people express themselves, and deserves recognition and care (as do the people who wear it). Join us in this 3 part series as we explore basic tips for daily upkeep, styling, and politics as they apply to Black hair. Please join us for the final session of this 3-part series.
Join us this Saturday, August 15th from 2-3pm for the final installment of How to Do Your Black Child’s Hair. Facilitator Taylor Coats will be modeling 2 hair styles (and the techniques needed to execute them), as well as offering a list of resources that might aid you in caring for your child’s hair. This session is sure to be packed with important info and tools, so don’t miss out! Be sure to register for the event at ourfamily.org
GUEST FACILITATOR: Taylor Coats is a graduate of Howard University and is currently getting her masters in Nonprofit Leadership at Seattle University. She has been a devout Naturalista for 10 years and is excited to help parents empower their children through self-love and care.
